Good Bye to Bali and Hello Penang.

Hi Everyone,

Today we are leaving beautiful Bali. It has been an amazing trip.  We can't impress on you how friendly the people are here!  Food has been fabulous and the scenery is breathtaking! I did manage to catch a bit of "Bali Belly"  last night.  It was just bad cramps and nothing else thank goodness.  Yesterday at the Spa was incredible.  I had my own private yoga and meditation instructor in the healing villa which overlooked the Agung river and gorge.  Then follow with a 90 minute Balinese Deep tissue massage.  I thought I had died and gone to heaven!!  After my massage they served me healing tea and then lunch on the Patio with Dad.  We had grilled Tuna!! YUM!  The rest of the day was spent relaxing in the gardens and we did go back to the markets and walked backed to our hotel which took 1.5 hours.  Dad was a real trouper!  Better go now.  Our driver arrives in 40 minutes to take us to the airport.  Thanks to everyone who has signed the guest book , we have enjoyed reading your best wishes.

Lots of Love,

A Day at the Spa

Hi Everyone,

We had another full day yesterday.  We could not get into the Elephant Safari that our guide had suggested because it was fully book so he took us to another one which was more like Park Safari than a true jungle ride.  We nevetheless had fun.  Our guide was excellent and made the trek.  We got lots of good pics.  WE still have not figured out how to post them here.  They do have high speed but the computers don't seem to have USB ports.  We visited a traditional weaving shop where the women work for $2 per day.  The Balinese people are such hard workers!!  We saw more temples and rice fields and visited an active volcano in the north.  We also went to see a traditional Balinese compound, house.  It was vey primative! Each family own a pig, a dog, a cat , and chickens.  We ended our day by watching the sunset on Jimbaran beach in the south of Bali. and had BBQ shrimp that they cooked for us.  It was really pleasant.  I am off now for a day at the healing centre with Yoga, Meditation and a deep tissue massage.  Can't wait.

Until next time.

Off to Elephant Safari in the Jungle

Hi Everyone,

We had a great day yesterday.  We decided to have a rest day after our long journey the day before.  We browsed through the markets for a while and were invited in to see how they make batik wall hangings and tablecothes. It was really interesting to see their set up.  They work so.. hard in such small confinements.  After that we hung out at the pool and read for abit.  It was the hottest day so far.  We caught the shuttle bus at 12:30 to the Royal Pita Maha.  A sister hotel to ours but much more lush.  We were greated by warm, smiling faces of the Balinese and escorted to our lunch table which overlooked the Ayung gorge.  The view was breath taking.  The building was in Marble with large collumns.  Only the Japanese stay here.  it is too expensive.  They have little villa's with priate pools.  Only $500.US per night.  After lunch we took a tour of the property.  We needed to take two elavators and 75 steps to get to the bottom.  It was well worth it.  There was no one around.  We walked through the gardens and I swam in the Lagoon pool.  Dad struck up conversation with a little Balinese worker as they are always willing to talk and ask where you are from. I also had a dip in the Holy pool.  Only women who do not have their monthly period are allowed to swim in the holy pools.  It was a gorgeous day and I enjoyed it so much I am going back on Saturday for Yoga and a therapeutic massage.  In the evening, our hotel put on a traditional Balinese buffet and dance/ballet.  We had front row seats, It was amazing to watch.  We are off now for another day of trecking and an elephant dafari in the jungle followed by a tour of the beaches in the south of the island.  Hope all is well back home.  Until next time.

First blog

Hi Everyone,

Sorry we have been slow to post.  The site was down for a couple of days and we could not access the site.

We arrived safely on Monday afternoon after 30 hours of tavelling.  We were pretty tired that day but we can't say we have experienced any jet lag!!  The hotel is beautiful where we are staying.  It is set in amongst the rainforest.  The people are friendly and the food is fabulous.  I can't say that it has been overly hot.  It is humid and the evenings are cool to sleep.  We have shopped in the local markets, took a bath in the hotsprings, saw lots of rice fields and temples and had lunch by the oean. Things are great! Hope all is well with everyone.

Lots of Love,

Cathy and Larry
